The Dog under the Bridge

I have seen and heard many stories, but this takes the cake. I'd love to see an army of people step forward and offer to help this poor dog. A nurse and her family already have--but they may need an attorney in a big Texas city to protect the dog--and definitely need sponsors to help with the medical bills and someone kind to adopt him.

More than a few months ago, a woman saw what she thought was a Saint Bernard. Concerned citizens had placed bowls of food all over the area. No one could catch him and I don't think anyone called animal services--probably out of fear...for the life of the dog. It would be most likely euthanized.

Before the holidays, a nurse and her husband, went out to find
the dog. Shivering, in the fetal position, they found him buried
under a pile of garbage--literally. He was near death. His hair
had all fallen out and he had many injuries to his face. He was
severely underweight, as are many dogs that wind up in rescue.

The bridge dog was taken home by this nurse, saving his life. She took him in for medical care, stayed up late nights, fed him and now, he has a full coat of hair, is getting back to his weight and is beginning to live a normal life being fostered--waiting for someone to adopt him now.

The story doesn't end there. Being responsible citizens, the family had the dog scanned for a microchip. His owners were called and they were ready for a tearful, happy reunion. The woman on the other end of the line, said that she had given this dog to her boyfriend and she said she thought the dog was dead. But he wasn't...Her boyfriend had taken the dog out and had shot it in the face and left it for dead. Now that he is "found" and nursed painstakingly back to health, the woman "owner" wants the dog back so she can SELL him!!! This is such an outrage I can barely contain my anger as I type.

...and so, to make this story a happy ending, it would be nice to have an attorney willing to represent the nurse or the dog if push comes to shove--a sponsor or two to help with his medical bills/care and a really good family to come forward to give this dog some happiness and peace that he so deserves.

I will update this story in a few weeks--or sooner if there is a happy resolution. Anyone who wants to help, please send me a comment with your contact info--both email and phone--and what you'd like to do, and I will forward it to the rescue organization supervising this dog's future. Just ask, and I will give you the rescue group's PayPal link for the Medical Aid Sponsorship Fund and mailing address. Thank you for caring!

My very first posting

Hello Y'all--welcome to Rescue Diaries.

I hope that one reader at a time, we can change the world...
one dog at a time.

It doesn't take much to save an innocent animal from unnecessary euthanasia or
from having to live under a tarp in the mud during rainy season.  It just takes a
group of people who care and with the help of the 'net, we can care from anywhere
in the world.

If you would like to submit an animal or a situation to be featured on my blog,
please send me an email.  Since I will verify any situation that I cover, you must be from one of the fifty states.  If there is an international rescue effort I should be
aware of, I will verify it through the international news sites.

Thank you kindly.
